What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage?
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (known as MLD) is a very gentle non-invasive therapy which promotes the healthy functioning of the lymphatic system.  It consists of applying light rhythmic strokes to the skin which stimulate the lymph vessels and increase the flow of lymph.  In this way congested tissue is drained of fluid.
The lymphatic system is a network of vessels which returns a proportion of tissue fluid to the vascular system so it rejoins the circulation of the blood.  In the process, the lymph fluid picks up dead cells, pathogens and other waste products and travels through the lymph nodes, filtering out these unwanted substances.  Thus the lymphatic system plays an important part in detoxifying the body and maintaining the health of the immune system.
MLD uses a very light touch and is pain-free.  It treats the lymphatic system directly and specifically.
